On December 6 2024, the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) assessed the safety of hair dyeing agent HC Red No. 18 (Colipa No. B124). The deadline for comments is set to January 13, 2025.

What’s new?

On December 6 2024, the SCCS published its second preliminary opinion on the safety of HC Red No. 18 (Colipa No. B124). HC Red No. 18 is used in cosmetic products as a hair dyeing agent.

In light of the new information provided on its purity, the SCCS considered HC Red 18 safe when used as an ingredient at 1.5% in oxidative hair dye and at 0.5% in non-oxidative hair dye formulations.

The opinion is open for comments until January 13 2025.

SCCS Revision of the Scientific Opinion on Vitamin A

The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety has issued a final version of the Scientific Opinion on Vitamin A, concluding that exposure to Vitamin A derived from cosmetics can be a concern for higher exposure consumers, and since cosmetics alone do not exceed the upper limit the SCCS cannot suggest maximum concentration limits that take into account contributions from other sources.
